The Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 requires that personal data be kept no longer than the purpose for which it was collected needs. This page explains how that principle applies to Automob. Workshops control how long the records they manage are kept; the periods described here are our defaults, and a workshop or the law may set a different one.

Account information is kept while the account is active and is deleted or anonymised once the account is closed. A customer's own vehicle records are deleted on account deletion, while copies a workshop holds are controlled by the workshop, which often keeps them for service history and warranty. Bookings, job cards, and repair reports are kept while they are active and for any period the workshop keeps for its records. Invoice and payment records are kept for the period tax and audit rules require, typically several years, even after an account is closed.

Information held mainly for safety and security is kept only as briefly as that purpose allows. The location and details of an SOS request, including any GPS coordinates, are kept only as long as is needed to handle the request and for safety and audit, and precise coordinates are not retained longer than necessary. Authentication and access logs are kept for a short period, device information lasts while the installation is active, a notification token is removed when you sign out or it is refreshed, and support correspondence is kept long enough to handle any follow-up. Backups run on a rotating cycle, and data deleted from the live system is removed from backups as they are overwritten.

When a retention period ends, or we act on a deletion request, data is securely deleted or anonymised. We may keep aggregated or anonymised information for reporting and improvement, and we may keep data longer where the law, an investigation, or a dispute requires it.
