Automob Privacy Policy
Jopex Investment Ltd
Last updated: 25 June 2026
Automob is an auto-workshop and vehicle-management application built by Jopex Investment Ltd. It helps vehicle owners look after their cars and bookings, and helps workshops manage jobs, customers, parts, and invoices. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data Automob collects, why, how it is shared, and how it is protected, and it should be read with our company-wide Terms & Conditions, Security Policy, and Your Data Rights. We handle personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 of Tanzania.
1. Who is responsible for the data
Where you register directly as a customer, Jopex is the controller of your account and your own vehicle records. Where a workshop records information about its customers, their vehicles, job cards, and invoices, the workshop is the controller of those records and Jopex acts as its processor, handling them on the workshop's instructions. Jopex is also the controller of account credentials, our security and device logs, and support correspondence. If a workshop holds data about you, it can answer your questions most directly, and we will support it.
2. What we collect
| Type of data | Examples |
|---|---|
| Account and identity | Name, mobile phone number, optionally an email address, and your role (customer, workshop owner or staff, or administrator). |
| Vehicle details | Make, model, plate number, year, colour, type and usage, engine size, fuel type, transmission, mileage, VIN, photographs, and renewal dates such as insurance, LATRA, and road-safety expiry. |
| Workshop profile | Business name, branches, services, staff, parts and inventory, and the payment details a workshop chooses to display, such as a Lipa Namba, bank account, or cash on collection. |
| Bookings and jobs | Booking requests, job cards, work done, parts used, wash and handover stages, and repair reports. |
| Invoices and payments | Invoice amounts, status, amounts paid, references, and times. |
| Roadside assistance | The assistance you request, a description of your situation, and your location (see below). |
Some information is collected automatically: basic device information, being the platform, app version, and a random install identifier the app generates, which is not a hardware serial, sent when you sign in and recorded to help us recognise the same installation and protect your account; a notification token through Firebase Cloud Messaging; and authentication and security data such as one-time-password events and sign-in times. Automob does not use advertising networks and does not sell your data.
When you use the SOS roadside-assistance feature, Automob collects the location you provide. This includes a typed description and, if you allow it, your device's GPS coordinates, so that help can reach you. Precise coordinates are collected only for an SOS request you start yourself, and only with your permission; Automob does not track your location in the background or at any other time, and you can decline the permission and enter your location as text instead.
Automob also offers an optional app lock using a PIN or a biometric check. Biometric verification is carried out by your device's operating system, which returns only a yes-or-no result; Automob never receives, sees, or stores your fingerprint or face data. Automob is intended for adults and is not directed at children.
3. How we use the data
We use personal data to run the Service: to manage your account, vehicles, bookings, job cards, and invoices, and to authenticate and secure your account. We use the location you provide to route an SOS request and send help. We generate and track invoices, send the notifications you have chosen, prevent fraud and abuse, answer support requests and improve reliability, and meet our legal and tax obligations. Depending on the purpose we rely on the performance of a contract, your consent, our legitimate interest in a secure service, a legal obligation, or, in an emergency, your vital interests, and, for data handled for a workshop, on the workshop's instructions.
4. How Automob handles payments
Automob does not take or hold your money. It records invoices and displays a workshop's own payment details, such as a Lipa Namba, bank account, or cash on collection, and it does not store card numbers. Any payment you make is directly between you and the workshop, subject to the workshop's and any payment provider's terms, and a dispute about a repair or an invoice should be raised with the workshop.
5. How the data is shared
We do not sell personal data, and we never share one workshop's or one customer's data with another for their own purposes. Each account's and each workshop's information is kept logically separate, so that one workshop cannot reach another's data, and a customer's details are shown only to that customer and to a workshop they actually deal with.
Beyond that, we share data only as far as the Service requires: with a workshop you book or transact with, so that it can do the work you asked for; with the responders to an SOS request you make, so that help can find you; with the providers who help us run Automob, namely Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, our SMS provider for one-time passwords, and our hosting provider, each bound by contract to use the data only as we instruct; and where the law or a competent authority requires it, or to protect rights and safety. If Jopex were ever involved in a merger or sale, data would transfer subject to this Policy. A current list of providers is available from info@jopex.co.tz.
6. Keeping, protecting, and your rights
We keep personal data only as long as it is needed or the law requires, with the detail set out in the Automob Data Retention Policy, and we protect it with the measures in our company-wide Security Policy. Where any data is processed outside Tanzania, for example by a global notification provider, we apply appropriate safeguards. You may see, correct, or delete your data, object to or restrict certain uses, withdraw consent, and complain, as described in Your Data Rights and the Automob Account Deletion Policy; where a workshop is the controller, we will pass on or support your request. We may update this Policy as Automob develops and will revise the date above. Questions can be sent to info@jopex.co.tz, and you may also contact the Personal Data Protection Commission of Tanzania.
